CANADIAN NAVAL CENTENNIAL - OKANAGAN ART DISPLAY

A naval art display is planned for inclusion in the Okanagan Military Museum (OMM), Canadian Naval Centennial (CNC) Exhibit which will be officially launched on 4 May 2010 (Navy Day). The CNC Exhibit will be on public display for the balance of the 2010 naval centennial year with the CNC Art Display being mounted on the wallspace on the museum's 2nd floor passageway.

The artwork will be comprised of a combination of naval artwork held by the OMM with new and already produced artwork by two Okanagan artists, Laurel Cormack and Paul Seguna. A number of new works are in process of being created for the art display by the two participating artists within the overall naval centennial theme such as Canadian Naval vessels with Okanagan linkages, HMCS OKANAGAN, KELOWNA AND KALAMALKA (asscoiated with Vernon), illustrating naval personages with an Okanagan/BC linkage or general subject matter within the first century of the Canadian Navy's history.

Laurel is an established artist whose works are included in private and public collections and whose art is carried in galleries in Penticton, Vancouver and Calgary. Laurel is a member of the Alberta Society of Artists and has also instructed in art at the Alberta College of Art & Design. A former member of the Naval Reseve she is a member of the Penticton Naval Veterans Association.

Paul Seguna is a founding member of the Canadian Aviation Artists Association (CAAA)and is currently serving in 2nd Vice president, Public Relations and webmaster capacities with the CAAA. He also serves as an Okanagan Military Museum Society Director. Paul has had a number of pieces of his artwork included in various art displays at venues across Canada including the Canada Aviation Museum in Ottawa and aviation/military museums in Halifax, Calgary, Victoria, Trenton, Langley and Kelowna. His artwork is in several private and public collections and has been included in publications.

SPECIAL COMMEMORATIVE CNC 'ZIPPO' LIGHTER PLANNED BY CNC OKANAGAN COMMITTEE MEMBER

CNC Okanagan Committee member Pat Broschart's hobby is collecting ship's cigarette lighters and he's been collecting them over a long career in the Canadian Navy. In fact, he has a collection of some 2,500 lighters from Canadian Naval vessels and ships from many of the world's navies.

Pat is commissioning a limited edition of 50 Limited Edition commemorative Canadian Naval Centennial lighters from the famous manufacturer of lighters, Zippo. These limited edition lighters were designed by Pat (with graphics assistance from Paul Seguna)in conjunction with Zippo and feature symbolic elements that illustrate the significance of this milestone in Canada's naval history.

Pat is looking forward to adding this special centennial memento to his own and collectors collections as part of celebrating the 2010 naval centennial year.
