A
number of events,programs and activities are planned in celebration
of the Canadian Naval Centenial 2010. These includes programs
such as the Naval Namesake program which will formally recognize
the relationship between ships currently in service with the Canadian
Navy and those ships that have been in commissioned service in
the past that share their names with a Naval Namesake city, town,
village and First Nations community in approximately 350 locations
across Canada. Other activities will include parades and ceremonies
in the navy's main base areas in Halifax, NS, Esquimalt (Victoria),
BC, in Ottawa and the 24 cities that are the locations of Naval
Reserve Divisions on 4 May 2010 - the official founding date of
the Canadian Navy. In Esquimalt and Halifax, International Fleet
Reviews consisting of naval vessels representing the world's navies
will take place in June and July respectively. In Ottawa, on 4th
May 2010 a specially forged Canadian Naval Centennial Bell will
be presented to the People of Canada at the House of Commons as
a gift from the Canadian Navy as that date will be proclaimed
by Parliament officially as the Navy Day.

As
these events occur across Canada in this naval centennial year
in communities with a Regular Force and Naval Reserve presence
other communities are also planning their own local naval centennial
activities in celebration of this significant milestone in the
Canadian Navy's and our national history. Naval centennial stakeholders
composed of groups such as the Naval Veteran's Association, Navy
League, Army, Navy and Air Force Veterans and Royal Canadian Legions,
to name a few are planning their own centennial activities.
The
Canadian Naval Centennial (CNC) Committee - Okanagan, representing
these naval centennial stakeholders has been planning a number
of activities in communities in the Okanagan including Penticton,
