RECRUITING
BRITISH COLUMBIA DRAGOONS ISSUED WITH NEW COMMAND RECONNAISSANCE VEHICLES
The British Columbia Dragoons Regiment has recently taken delivery of the first of the new reconnaissance vehicles being issued to it. The Canadian Forces new Command Reconnaissance Vehicles (CRV), is also known as the “G Wagen” (from the German term Geländewagen for Cross-Country Vehicle). The CRV in use in Canada and abroad with the Regular Force, and is now being issued to Reserve armored reconnaissance units across Canada.
The G Wagen is replacing the Iltis, a light utility vehicle; however, it is a different vehicle, with a roof mounted turret and machine gun, added specifically for its reconnaissance role.
“This vehicle will form the basis for our future light mobile reconnaissance training and effectively assist in preparing unit soldiers for tasks in Canada and current foreign operational settings.” says the unit’s Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Cliff Jamieson. “Communities throughout the Okanagan Valley can expect to see these vehicles complete with machine guns mounted as we undertake realistic training for operations in both urban and rural environments.”

The unit will eventually receive 16 G Wagens which will be distributed to its three operational squadrons in Kelowna, Vernon and Penticton. A total of 802 vehicles have been ordered by the Canadian Forces. The rugged construction of the G-Wagen and optional armour kit have been credited with saving the lives of a number of Canadians during their use in Afghanistan. The G-Wagen was developed jointly by Steyr-Daimler-Puch and is assembled by Magna Steyr in Graz, Austria.
As a member of the Regiment you'll get a chance to operate this new vehicle in tactical training in the Okanagan. For more information on what training and job opportunities you can look forward to as a Dragoon contact the Dragoons in person or by phone at:
